  If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so better not forget that rivers in this state are less demanding. If you're coming from Staunton-Waynesboro it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location. The scenic beauty of Highland County and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area
    you'll find lots of paddling rivers. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if
you want to stay the night, but if you donít have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This stretch of Potomac River - South Branch in Virginia is 1 miles long and it is classified as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. This section is very short so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. There are plenty of other stretches in this  
river system that can be paddled as well.

Briefly about the general area:
Potomac River - South Branch is not far at all from Blue Grass, and tremendous hiking is available along the Laurel Fork Trail. Don't leave Potomac River - South Branch without first going for a hike along the Christian Run Trail. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 80's to Potomac River - South Branch while night lows are commonly in the 50's. High temperatures during the wintertime are normally in the 30's; winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Potomac River - South Branch. Potomac River - South Branch is a wet place that gets much rainfall.
