The beautiful scenery of Dickenson County and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. The Route 739 to Route 611 stretch of Pound River in Dickenson County is 2 miles long and it is classified as a class I-II(III) section by American Whitewater. There are a few other sections in this
river system that can be paddled as well. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. When you're paddling down a Cumberland Plateau Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. This is a short paddling stretch so you'll have to walk
back to the start over and over. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Virginia are easier than the national norm, so better not forget that rivers here are less demanding.

the driest month. During the long summer days at Pound River highs are ordinarily in the 80's, and the night is somewhat chillier of course, usually in the 60's. During the wintertime highs are regularly in the 40's with temperatures at Pound River dipping down into the 20's during winter nights. There's no way anyone can get bored here in the Cumberland Plateau Mountains.
