If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so if you're not from around here don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. The nature scenery of Wise/ Lee County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. are great attractions for lots of people. This stretch of Powell River in Virginia is 12 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-II section of whitewater. The Big Stone Gap to Dryden stretch is one of many paddling stretches in this river system. Not too many
hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The river winds through the Cumberland Plateau Mountains and you get great scenery. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your camp stove.
