The wonderful Virginia scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Big Stone Gap to Dryden section is just one of many. Getting your paddling     muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The wild scenery of the Cumberland Plateau Mountains is great. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. Briefly about the general area: A magnificent spot to stop by near Powell River is Old Still Hollow; a short spree to Wake Spring is always worthwhile.
