The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Virginia are often easier than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The wonderful Lee County scenery and the playfulness of the water beats anything. The Route 603 bridge to Pennington Gap stretch of Powell River in Lee County is 6.5 miles long and has been rated
as a class II-IV section by American Whitewater. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Getting your paddling muscles activated
and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. This is a pretty decent length section, suitable for an afternoon trip. The beautiful Cumberland Plateau Mountains scenery is an added bonus.
