Virginia whitewater - Quantico Creek, Prince William County Prince William county, Trail 7 to Dumfries section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-III     4 miles   The nature scenery of Virginia and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The Trail 7 to Dumfries section of Quantico Creek is 4 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III section. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling places. The put-in     location is a short drive from Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, as you can see on the road map further down. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Virginia you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Briefly about the general area: From a precipitation point of view Quantico Creek is a relatively typical place; throughout May this area sees the most rain, and January on the other hand is the driest. Go for a hike on the Calvin Branch Mine Trail. Good hiking is available along   the Quantico Falls Trail, and dropping by Prince William Forest Park is just something you need to do if you haven't yet. Summer brings highs in the 80's to Quantico Creek. Throughout the dark hours of summer temperatures sink down into the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's with temperatures at Quantico Creek dipping down into the 20's throughout winter nights.
