The Shenandoah National Park to Route 29 section of Rapidan River in Greene/Madison County is 15 miles long and is a class II-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. There are no other sections to paddle along Rapidan River than the Shenandoah National Park to Route 29 section. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so why not pack your camp stove too. There aren’t any hotels right     nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The nature scenery of Virginia and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots for that around here. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so you'd better keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. Briefly about the general area: Mitchell Bluff is an interesting place to go to while at Rapidan River. Rapidan River is a good place of typical rain; August is the month that gets the most rain while January is generally the driest   month. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 80's to Rapidan River. Throughout the moonlight hours it's generally in the 60's. All through the winter highs are typically in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Rapidan River.
