The beautiful scenery of Greene/Madison County and the water flowing gracefully down Rapidan River attract people from near and far. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The Shenandoah National Park to Route 29 stretch     is the only paddling stretch along Rapidan River. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. The Shenandoah National Park to Route 29 stretch of Rapidan River in Greene/Madison County is 15 miles long and has been rated as a class II-IV section by American Whitewater. Briefly about the general area: Don't leave Rapidan River without first checking out Mitchell Bluff. Rapidan River is a good spot of common rain; August is the month that gets the most rain, and January meanwhile is the driest month. High temperatures at Rapidan River throughout the summer are in the 80's   while nighttime lows are regularly in the 60's. Daytime highs through the winter are in the 40's, and after the sun is down all through the winter temperatures at Rapidan River descend into the 20's.
