The beautiful scenery of Greene/Madison County and the water flowing gracefully down Rapidan River will make you feel great. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling spots. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd     better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. If you're coming from Charlottesville it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. The Shenandoah National Park to Route 29 section is the only paddling section along Rapidan River. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Briefly about the general area: The amount of rainfall that falls at Rapidan River is close to the national average; through the month of August you get the most rain around here, and the driest month of the year is January. At Rapidan River during the months of summer highs are in the 80's. Summer nighttime lows drop down   to the 60's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 40's, and after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at Rapidan River descend into the 20's. You simply should go to Mitchell Bluff while you're here at Rapidan River.
