The I-81 to New River section of Reed Creek in Wythe County is 8 miles long and has been rated as a class I-IV section by American Whitewater. If you're coming from Blacksburg-Christiansburg-Radford it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. The beautiful scenery of Virginia and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but if you don’t have reservations you
might end up sleeping in your car. On this section you do get some distance, you can easily run it on an afternoon. The average Virginia whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so better not forget that many of the sections here
are safe for beginners. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. The beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is an added bonus. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. This is the only paddling stretch along Reed Creek.
