Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Virginia tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so better not forget that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. The I-81 to New River stretch of Reed Creek in Wythe County is 8 miles long and is a class I-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The river winds through the Blue Ridge Mountains and you get great scenery. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Blacksburg-Christiansburg-Radford,
as you can see on the road map further down. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. This stretch has has enough mileage, good for a one day paddling trip. The I-81 to New River stretch is the only paddling stretch along Reed Creek.
