This section of Reed Creek is 8 miles long and has been rated as a class I-IV section by American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is the only paddling stretch along Reed Creek. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll
find lots of paddling places. The beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is an added bonus. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. On this section you do get some distance, you
can easily run it on an afternoon. The beautiful scenery of Wythe County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The put-in is not too far from Blacksburg-Christiansburg-Radford, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost.
Briefly about the general area: The yearly rain here at Reed Creek is about average; the wettest month of the year is commonly May, that's the one that rains the most, and November on the other hand is
the driest. All through the days of summer, highs generally are in the 80's at Reed Creek, and the nighttime is a little colder of course, mostly in the 50's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Reed Creek.
