Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Virginia are easier than the national norm, so you'd better keep in mind that many runs in this state are very easy. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This stretch of Roach River in Albemarle County     is 6 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III section of whitewater. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. This is a pretty decent length section, it's perfect for a one day trip. The starting point is not too far from Charlottesville, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. Briefly about the general area: Summertime highs at Roach River ordinarily tend to be in the 80's. For the period of the dark hours of summer temperatures dip down into the 60's. Highs all through the winter are mostly in the 40's, and after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at Roach River fall into the 20's.   A common amount of rainfall falls here at Roach River; the month of August is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest of the months is January.
