Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so you'd better keep in mind that many runs in this state are very easy. The Route 603 to Roanoke River stretch of Roanoke River - North Fork in Virginia is 14 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-III section. The beautiful scenery of Bedford/ Campbell County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream beats anything. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no
problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. If you're coming from Blacksburg-Christiansburg-Radford it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either
way this area has a large number of paddling places. The wild scenery of the Blue Ridge Mountains is great. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Route 603 to Roanoke River section is one of them. There's camping available near Roanoke River - North Fork. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people.
