This run is great, but it is NOT in Bedford or Campbell county not even near. it starts in Mongomry county and flows into Roanoke county.use the put in at the Dixie Caverns wayside on Rt. 11. there are several take outs you can use, the river is next to the road in several places. Says Kurt

The average Virginia whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that many runs in this state are very easy. If you're coming from Roanoke it's not a long drive at all to the
put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The beautiful scenery of Bedford/ Campbell County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but
if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that. The beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is an added bonus. This stretch of Roanoke River - South Fork in Virginia is 8 miles long and it is classified as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. You can pitch a tent or park your
RV at a nearby campground. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come.
