Virginia whitewater, Roaring Run

Botetourt county, County line to Recreation Area section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS V+     1.2 miles
The natural beauty of Botetourt County and the cool fresh water have people coming here. If you're coming from Roanoke it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. This river system
has a few good paddling sections and the County line to Recreation Area section is one of them. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good spots for that around here. If you'll be staying in
a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. The County line to Recreation Area section of Roaring Run in Botetourt County is 1.2 miles long and has been rated as a class V+ section by American Whitewater. The wild scenery of the Blue Ridge
Mountains is great. There's camping available near Roaring Run. This is an extremely short section so no need to bring snacks.

Briefly about the general area:
You can never get enough of the splendid skiing at The Homestead, and stopping by Douthat State Park is a nice thing to do. Man, is there lots of entertaining stuff to do in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Going for a hike along the Stony Run Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this area. A spree to Jefferson National Forest when you're here at Roaring Run is never a bad idea, and there are plenty of people from Low Moor here at Roaring Run.
