The County line to Recreation Area stretch of Roaring Run is 1.2 miles long and is a class V+ section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Roanoke, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The nature scenery of Botetourt County and the water flowing gracefully down Roaring Run attract people from near and far. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature will make you glad you came. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in
this state is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. Whitewater paddling here in the Blue Ridge Mountains is a great experience. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds
nearby. This is a very short stretch so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. This is the only paddling section along Roaring Run. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good places for that around here. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
Briefly about the general area: Through the months of summer here at Roaring Run, high temperatures regularly get into the 80's, and during
summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. For the period of the winter highs are ordinarily in the 40's while Roaring Run nighttime low temperatures during the wintertime are in the 20's. The amount of rain that falls at Roaring Run is close to the national average; through the month of July you get the most rain around here, and the driest month of the year is February.
