Syria to Locust Dale section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS II+ 19 miles
this is a fun stretch of whitewater. i have run numerous times and have enjoyed it every time i would recomend it for anyone. it has a few class 2-3 ledges that are lots of fun and uncountable gravel bars and small rock gardens....near the end there is a nice way to end your trip with a swimming hole complete with a rope swing and all!!!! The Syria to Locust Dale section of Robinson River is 19 miles long and has been rated as a class II+ section by American Whitewater. The natural beauty of Virginia and the beautiful way the water current
moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your sleeping bag. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around
here. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Virginia are often easier than in other states, so better not forget that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. Robinson River doesn't have a lot of paddling
stretches, the Syria to Locust Dale stretch is the only one.
