The scenic beauty of Virginia and the water flowing gracefully down Rucker Run are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The average Virginia whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. This stretch of Rucker Run in Virginia is 4.3 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. On this section you do get
some distance, good for a one day paddling trip. There's camping available near Rucker Run. The starting point is not too far from Charlottesville, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to
one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This is the only paddling stretch along Rucker Run.
Briefly about the general area: A tremendous place to stop by next to Rucker Run is Canada Gap. Rucker Run regularly gets much precipitation; October is when you get the most rain here while January is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Throughout the warm days of summer at Rucker Run highs are commonly in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures descend down into the 60's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Rucker Run.
