The natural beauty of Virginia and the water flowing gracefully down Shaws Fork make the trip here worthwhile. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Virginia is often easier than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Staunton-Waynesboro, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The campgrounds here at Shaws Fork are pretty good. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these
hotels fill up quick. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. The Headwaters to Liberty stretch of Shaws Fork in Virginia is 4.5 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American
Whitewater. This is the only paddling section along Shaws Fork. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling rivers.
Briefly about the general area: There are wonderful locations to discover along the Shenandoah Mountain Trail, and Shaws Fork is close to Wilson Hollow which is unquestionably worth stopping at. For the period of the summertime here at Shaws Fork, high temperatures generally reach the 70's; the night is a bit cooler of course, typically in the 50's. All through the winter highs are
commonly in the 30's while Shaws Fork nighttime low temperatures throughout the winter are in the 10's. Going for a hike on the Benson Run Trail is always a magnificent adventure. An average amount of rainfall falls at Shaws Fork; through the month of July you get the most rain around here while January is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
