The Route 50 to Route 7 section of Shenandoah River in Clarke County is 14 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I(II) section of whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Virginia is often easier than elsewhere, so keep in mind that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your camp stove. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a
room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The campgrounds here at Shenandoah River are pretty good. The wild scenery of the Blue Ridge Mountains is great. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good rivers for
that around here. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. If you're coming from Hagerstown-Martinsburg it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. The natural beauty of Virginia and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far.
