The starting point is not too far from Hagerstown-Martinsburg, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The average Virginia whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so better not forget that the rivers in this state are less demanding. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. You might be into whitewater rafting or
kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. The Route 50 to Route 7 stretch of Shenandoah River is 14 miles long and it is classified as a class I(II) section by American Whitewater. There are plenty of other sections in this river
system that can be paddled as well. The beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains is a great plus for this river. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so pack your sleeping bag. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near.
Briefly about the general area: Rod Hollow is a good spot to check out close by. From a rain point of view Shenandoah River is a relatively typical site; all through July this area sees the most rain,
and January on the other hand is the driest. Summertime at Shenandoah River arrives with high temperatures in the 80's. Summer overnight lows plunge down to the 60's. High temperatures throughout the winter are normally in the 30's while the cold winter nights at Shenandoah River are in the 10's.
