Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. This section of Shoe Creek is 2 miles long and is a class III-V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. The North Fork to Piney section is the only paddling     section along Shoe Creek. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This is a somewhat short section so better bring some good walking shoes. The beautiful scenery of Amherst/Nelson County and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. Briefly about the general area: A splendid place close to Shoe Creek is Cash Hollow. At Shoe Creek throughout the summer months highs are in the 80's; through summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Shoe Creek are in the 10's.   Shoe Creek generally gets a great deal of precipitation; during the month of October you get the most rain around here, and January meanwhile is the driest month.
