Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Virginia is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. The Diana Mills to James River section of Slate River in Virginia is 9.5 miles long and is a class I-II
section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature will make you glad you came. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you
won't find many other paddling spots. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's perfect for a one day trip. The Diana Mills to James River stretch is the only paddling stretch along Slate River. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.
Briefly about the general area: Through the months of summer highs here at Slate River get into the 80's while night lows are regularly in the 60's. Through the wintertime this place
gets highs in the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Slate River. All the water falling down from the sky makes Slate River a wet location; the wettest month of the year is ordinarily October, that's the one that rains the most; the driest of the months is January.
