The wonderful Virginia scenery and the cool fresh water beats anything. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. You can enjoy this stretch more if you take your time, so pack your camping stuff. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Virginia tend to be more forgiving than the national average,     so don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots. The beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains is a great plus for this river. The winter brings highs down to the 40's, and overnight lows in the 10's for South River.
