The Waynesboro to Lynnwood stretch of South River in Virginia is 25 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-II section of whitewater. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Briefly about the general area: For the duration of the warm days of summer   here at South River, high temperatures frequently get into the 80's, and the overnight is quite cooler of course, generally in the 60's. All through the wintertime this place gets highs in the 40's; night lows at South River throughout the winter mostly dip into the 10's. South River gets a typical amount of annual precipitation; August is when you get the most rain here, and February on the other hand is the driest. Hiking along the Wildcat Ridge Trail is good fun; Dorsey Hanger Hollow is a great location to spend some time.
