The beautiful scenery of Scott County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. The average Virginia whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. The put-in is not too far from Kingsport-Bristol, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. This stretch
is short so better bring some good walking shoes. This stretch of Stock Creek in Scott County is 1.8 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III section. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers
for that. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Natural Tunnel State Park section is one of them.
Briefly about the general area: A magnificent spot right next door to Stock Creek is Ford Valley. Summertime highs at Stock Creek generally tend to be in
the 80's. Through the dark hours of summer temperatures descend down into the 60's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 40's with temperatures at Stock Creek dipping down into the 20's throughout winter nights. Lots of precipitation falls at Stock Creek; most of the rain falls during May, and the driest of the months is October.
