CLASS III-IV+(V) 1.5 miles
This stretch of Stock Creek is 1.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV+(V) section. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so keep in mind that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Kingsport-Bristol, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. There's camping available near Stock Creek. The wonderful Scott County scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on
the water make the trip here worthwhile. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.
There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Upper Gorge stretch is one of them. This is a bit of a short stretch so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling rivers.
Briefly about the general area: The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 80's to Stock Creek. Once the sun is down it dips down to the 60's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 40's with temperatures at Stock Creek dipping down
into the 20's during winter nights. Jesse Hollow is a nice place to take a look at close to Stock Creek. An average amount of rain falls at Stock Creek; March is the month that gets the most rain, and October is when it's the driest.
