The beautiful scenery of Virginia and the playfulness of the water beats anything. The starting point is not too far from Blacksburg-Christiansburg-Radford, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. This section of Stony Creek - New Tributary is 7 miles long and has been rated as a class III-V section by American Whitewater. The Route 635 to Route 684 section is the only paddling section along Stony Creek - New Tributary. You might be into whitewater rafting
or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling rivers. This stretch is mid length, suitable for an afternoon trip. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. The nearby hotels are a bit
away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
