This section of Tennessee Laurel Creek in Virginia is 2.5 miles long and it is classified as a class III+(IV) section by American Whitewater. The beautiful scenery of Virginia and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. Tennessee Laurel Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Roadside Laurel stretch is the only one. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. If you're coming from Boone it's not a long
drive at all to the starting location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. You might be into
whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. This is a pretty short section so no need to bring snacks. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so better not forget that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere.
