  The Upper Gorge stretch of Tumbling Creek in Virginia is 5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class V section of whitewater. The beautiful scenery of Virginia and the water flowing gracefully down Tumbling Creek will make you feel great. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Bristol, as you can see on the road map further down. There's camping available near Tumbling Creek. On this section you do get some distance, good for a one day paddling trip. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there
    are a few others too. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. The average Virginia whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so better not forget that
lots of rivers here are good for beginners. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here.
