The natural beauty of Russell County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. The Upper Gorge section of Tumbling Creek in Russell County is 5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class V section. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping
in your car. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. The starting location is a short drive from Bristol, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This is a pretty decent length section, you can easily
run it on an afternoon. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good places.
Briefly about the general area: Tumbling Creek commonly gets a great deal of precipitation; most of the rain falls all through July, and the driest month of the year is February. Twin Hollow is a brilliant spot to discover. During the days of summer highs here at Tumbling Creek get into the 80's, and during the night
it cools down to the 60's. Daytime highs all through the wintertime are in the 40's, and nighttime lows in the 20's for Tumbling Creek.
