The starting point is not too far from Staunton-Waynesboro, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The wonderful Virginia scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. This stretch of Tye River in Virginia is 15 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-IV section. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions
for lots of people. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll
have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so pack your camping stuff. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers.
Briefly about the general area: Cow Hollow is near Tye River and is unquestionably a great spot to have a look at. Tye River usually gets a lot of rain; the month of October is the wettest with most of the rain; January is the month with the least
moisture. Summertime highs at Tye River mostly tend to be in the 80's. Summer overnight lows sink down to the 60's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 40's, and after the sun is down through the winter temperatures at Tye River plunge into the 10's.
