Nash to Tye River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS III-IV 15 miles
The put-in is not too far from Staunton-Waynesboro, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The scenic beauty of Nelson County and the water flowing gracefully down Tye River attract people from near and far. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots for that. The Nash to Tye River stretch of Tye River is 15 miles long and is a class III-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. This is not
the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Getting your paddling muscles activated
and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. You can enjoy this stretch more if you take your time, so why not pack your camp stove too. The average Virginia whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very demanding.
