Might have difficulty getting to marked put in point. take out point is just before bridge on river right. cars will have to go across bridge and pull off just around sharp right corner. Old rock bridge piling could be climbed (50 ft +/-) with proper protection (most likely top roped). Says Mike T. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the US 29 to Route 654 stretch is just one of them. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling spots. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. If you're coming from Lynchburg it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's good length for a morning trip. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. Briefly about   the general area: Tye River sees pretty high levels of rain; the wettest month of the year is usually October, that's the one that rains the most, and the driest of the months is January. Through the long summer days highs here at Tye River get into the 80's. Through the dark hours of summer temperatures descend down into the 60's. Through the winter highs are in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Tye River.
