If you're coming from Lynchburg it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. This river system     is full of great paddling sections, the US 29 to Route 654 section is just one of them. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners.
