  The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Virginia are often easier than in other states, so don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. The beautiful scenery of unknown County and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The Route 654 to James River section is one of many paddling sections in this river system. This stretch is mid length, you can easily run it on an afternoon. The starting location is a short drive from Charlottesville, as you can see on the road map further down.
    And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number
of good spots.

Briefly about the general area:
Tye River is a wet site that gets a large amount of rainfall; October is the wettest month with most rain, and January is the month with the least moisture. High temperatures at Tye River all through the warm months are in the 80's. Once the sun is down it drops down to the 60's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 40's, and all through the dark hours in the winter at Tye River temperatures drop to the 20's.
