The scenic beauty of Nelson County and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The Route 56 to Nash section of Tye River - South Fork in Nelson County is 3.7 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class V section. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there
are others too. If you're coming from Staunton-Waynesboro it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots for that around here. This
is a somewhat short section so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Virginia tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are less demanding.
