This stretch of Tye River - South Fork in Virginia is 3.7 miles long and is a class V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The nature scenery of Nelson County and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. This is a pretty short section so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times.     Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. If you're coming from Staunton-Waynesboro it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. Briefly about the general area: A short trip to Crabtree Falls is always worthwhile, and if you feel like a little side journey, try Wolf Hollow. Why not take a refreshing hike along the White Rock Gap Trail.
