Virginia whitewater - Wilson Creek, Alleghany County Alleghany county, Douthat Park Dam to Jackson River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-III     7.5 miles   The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Virginia are often easier than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. The Douthat Park Dam to Jackson River stretch of Wilson Creek is 7.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III section. This stretch is mid length, it's perfect for a one day trip. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. This is the     only paddling section along Wilson Creek. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The natural beauty of Virginia and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling spots. Briefly about the general area: There is a pleasant hiking trail near Wilson Creek called the Brushy Hollow Trail. The high level of rainfall makes Wilson Creek a rather wet place; July is when you get the most rain here while December is the month with the least amount of precipitation. High temperatures at Wilson Creek throughout the warmest time of the year are in the 80's.   Through the dark hours of summer temperatures plunge down into the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 30's, and night lows in the 10's for Wilson Creek. Going for a hike on the Beards Gap Trail is always a tremendous adventure, and if you're here, you might as well visit McGraw Hollow.
