The natural beauty of -blank- County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature will make you glad you came. The wild scenery of the Northern Cascade Range is great. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the
night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. On this section you do get some distance, it's perfect for a one day trip. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states,
so keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. This stretch of American River is 7.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III+ section of whitewater. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp.
Briefly about the general area: Don't leave American River without first going for a hike along the American Ridge Trail, and there's delightful hiking along the Goose Prairie Trail. American River generally
gets a good deal of rain; throughout the month of January you get the most rain around here, and the driest month of the year is July. Summer at American River arrives with high temperatures in the 70's, and the nighttime is rather colder of course, frequently in the 40's.
The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 30's while the cold winter nights at American River are in the 20's. You just can't imagine the amount of outdoors exciting stuff the Northern Cascade Range has to offer.
