The nature scenery of Yakima County and the playfulness of the water beats anything. The Hell's Crossing to American Forks stretch of American River in Washington is 4.7 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-IV section of whitewater. The beautiful Northern Cascade Range scenery is an added bonus. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're not from around here don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. There are some good
sections to paddle in this river system, the Hell's Crossing to American Forks section is one of them. This stretch has has enough mileage, good for a one day paddling trip. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Whether you're whitewater rafting
or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots for that. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.
Briefly about the general area: American River is a reasonably wet place commonly with a large amount of rain; of all the months in a year January is the one with the most rain; the driest month of the year is July.
All the outdoors exciting stuff in the Northern Cascade Range will keep you coming back time and again. Throughout the summertime, highs mostly are in the 70's at American River. Through the moonlight hours it's frequently in the 40's. The cold days of the winter come with
highs in the 30's; winter nights come with lows in the 20's to American River. Near American River you locate the Fifes Ridge Trail which is a splendid hiking trail, and going for a hike on the Goat Creek Trail is always a wonderful adventure.
