  The American Forks to Sawmill Flat stretch of American River in Yakima County is 5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II+ section. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. This stretch is mid length, you can easily run it on an afternoon. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. Whitewater
    rafting and kayaking spots in Washington are harder than the national norm, so keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. The wonderful
Washington scenery and the water flowing gracefully down American River will make you feel great. The American Forks to Sawmill Flat stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. The beauty of the Northern Cascade Range is a great plus for this river.

Yeah, come up here to the Northern Cascade Range for a great time. The beauty of mother nature reveals herself at Horsetail Falls, and don't leave American River without first going for a hike along the Kaner Flat Trail. Through the summer months here
 
at American River, high temperatures regularly reach the 70's while night lows are generally in the 40's. For the period of the wintertime highs are frequently in the 30's, and after the sun is down through the winter temperatures at American River plunge into the 20's.
Willow Springs is an inspiring site to go to while you're here, and you can go for a hike on the Quartz Creek Trail. This is a great river. The high level of rainfall makes American River a pretty wet place; the month of January is the wettest with most of the rain while July is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
