The American Forks to Sawmill Flat stretch of American River in Yakima County is 5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II+ section. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. This stretch is mid length, you can easily run it on an afternoon. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
