The starting point is not too far from Shelton, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The beautiful scenery of Mason County County and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots. The beautiful Olympic Mountains scenery is an added bonus. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. There aren’t any hotels
right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The Old Bridge to Middle Satsop section is the only paddling section along Baker Creek. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Washington is often more
difficult than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. This is a short paddling stretch so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. This stretch of Baker Creek in Mason County County is 1.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV section.
Briefly about the general area: A lot of rain falls at Baker Creek; December is when you get the most rain here; July is
the month with the least moisture. For the period of the summertime months at Baker Creek highs are frequently in the 70's; the night is fairly cooler of course, mostly in the 40's. Highs during the wintertime are frequently in the 40's with winter lows in the 30's overnight here at Baker Creek.
