The average Washington whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. This stretch of Baker River in Whatcom County is 2.7 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II section. There are no other stretches to paddle along Baker River than the North Cascades National Park to Baker Lake stretch. Whitewater paddling here in the Northern Cascade Range is a great experience. County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. This is a pretty short section so you'll have
to walk back to the start over and over. There's camping available near Baker River. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots for that around here.
Briefly about the general area: All through the summertime at Baker River temperatures are ordinarily in the 70's, and the night is quite cooler of course, commonly in the 50's.
The wintertime brings highs down to the 40's while the cold winter nights at Baker River are in the 30's. Baker River is a wet place that gets a good deal of rainfall; the month with most of the rain is November, and July is when it's the driest.
