  Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. The beautiful scenery of Washington and the cool fresh water have people coming here. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Bremerton-Silverdale,
    if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This is a somewhat short section so better bring some good walking shoes. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling
rivers. This section of Big Quilcene River in Washington is 2 miles long and it is classified as a class V+ section by American Whitewater. There's camping available near Big Quilcene River. When you're paddling down a Olympic Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too.

High temperatures at Big Quilcene River all through the summer months are in the 60's. Through the dark hours
 
of summer temperatures drop down into the 50's. Throughout the winter highs are in the 40's, and after the sun is down through the wintertime temperatures at Big Quilcene River fall into the 30's. Walker Pass is near Big Quilcene River and is a great location.
Big Quilcene River is typically a pretty dried up site; December is the wettest month with most rain, and July is when it's the driest.
