This section of Big Quilcene River in Washington is 3.2 miles long and is a class IV+ section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The nature scenery of Jefferson County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here. This stretch is short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. The river winds through the Olympic Mountains and you get great scenery. This is one of a small number of
paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Bremerton-Silverdale, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want
to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Washington you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. The campgrounds here at Big Quilcene River are pretty good.

you might not ever wanna return home again. High temperatures at Big Quilcene River through the warmest time of the year are in the 60's. Once the sun is down it descends down to the 50's. Through the winter highs are in the 40's, and night lows during the winter for Big Quilcene
River tend to be in the 30's. Big Quilcene River is pretty waterless usually; the month of December is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest month of the year is July. A fine location close to Big Quilcene River is Walker Pass, and no need to travel far to explore interesting stuff like South Point.
