The to Kachess Reservoir section of Box Canyon Creek in Kittitas County is 2 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV+(V) section by American Whitewater. The wonderful Washington scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so don't forget that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. This is a pretty short section so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. This is
the only paddling stretch along Box Canyon Creek. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The wild scenery of the Northern Cascade Range
is great. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here.
Briefly about the general area: All the water falling down from the sky makes Box Canyon Creek a wet place; January is the month that gets the most rain while July is commonly the driest month. On a magnificent day at Box Canyon Creek you can take a hike along the Cooper Pass Trail; there is a tremendous hiking trail
close by called the Kachess Ridge Trail. Be careful coming to the Northern Cascade Range, you might not ever wanna go back home again. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 70's to Box Canyon Creek. Throughout the dark hours of summer temperatures dip down into the
50's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's; during the dark hours in the wintertime at Box Canyon Creek temperatures drop to the 30's.
