Washington whitewater - Butter Creek, Northern Cascade Range, Lewis County
Lewis
county,
along FR 5270 section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS III 2.5 miles
The wonderful Washington scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Butter Creek are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This stretch of Butter Creek in Lewis County is 2.5 miles long and has been rated as a class III section by American Whitewater. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This section is quite short so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. Butter Creek doesn't have a lot
of paddling sections, the along FR 5270 section is the only one. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of
spots for that. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. When you're paddling down a Northern Cascade Range river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so better not forget that quite a few of the sections here are not easy.
