The put-in location is a short drive from Port Angeles, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The scenic beauty of Clallam County and the water flowing gracefully down Calawah River - North Fork are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The campgrounds here at Calawah River - North Fork are pretty good. This section of Calawah River - North Fork in Washington is 9.2 miles long and is a class II+ section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Great exercise and just being out on the river
for a while have a lot of people coming here. The Balch Bridge to South Fork Calawah confluence section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. This is a pretty decent length section, it's good length for a morning trip. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking
outside Washington you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The beautiful Olympic Mountains scenery is an added bonus.
