The Rugged Ridge Trail to Hyas Creek section of Calawah River - South Fork in Clallam County is 7 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class IV section of whitewater. The starting location is a short drive from Port Angeles, as you can see on the road map further down. There's camping available near Calawah River - South Fork. The wonderful Washington scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream beats anything. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in
advance you're all set. This is a pretty decent length section, it's good length for a morning trip. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well.
If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so don't forget that many runs in this state are not easy. When you're paddling down a Olympic Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of rivers for that.
