Washington whitewater - Carbon River, Northern Cascade Range, Pierce County
Pierce
county,
Fairfax to 177th St. East section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS V 9 miles
This section of Carbon River in Pierce County is 9 miles long and is a class V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so better not forget that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. The nature scenery of Washington and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good
rivers. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Fairfax to 177th St. East section is one of them. A good workout and just being out on the river
for a while will have you coming back for more. The Northern Cascade Range scenery is wonderful. This is a pretty decent length section, suitable for an afternoon trip. The put-in is not too far from Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that.
