The wonderful Washington scenery and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. If you're coming from Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill
up quick. This stretch of Carbon River is 9 miles long and is a class II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Washington are harder than the national norm, so if you're not from around here don't forget that quite a few
of the sections here are not easy. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. The 177th St. East to Puyallup River stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby.
Briefly about the general area: At Carbon River all through the long summer days highs are in the 70's. Through the dark hours of summer temperatures plunge down into
the 50's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 40's with temperatures at Carbon River dipping down into the 30's during winter nights. A typical amount of precipitation falls here at Carbon River; of all the months in a year November is the one with the most rain while July is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
