The nature scenery of Pierce County and the cool fresh water beats anything. This section of Chinook Creek in Pierce County is 5 miles long and it is classified as a class IV-V section by American Whitewater. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. Chinook Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Deer Creek to Cedar Flats section is the only one. And of course, there
are campgrounds nearby. The wild scenery of the Northern Cascade Range is great. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's good length for a morning trip. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Washington are often more challenging than
in other states, so better not forget that many runs in this state are not easy. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
Briefly about the general area: Through the summer highs here at Chinook Creek get into the 70's, and during summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 40's while Chinook Creek nighttime low temperatures through the winter are in the 30's. Yep, outdoors entertaining stuff truly is
bountiful here in the Northern Cascade Range. There is a good hiking trail in close proximity to Chinook Creek called the Sheep Lake Trail, and going for a hike on the Boundary Trail is always a great adventure. Chinook Creek is a quite wet place generally with a large amount
of rain; the wettest month of the year is frequently November, that's the one that rains the most while July is the month with the least amount of precipitation. A tour to Stafford Falls will fill your spirit with good feelings, and Grove of the Patriarchs is a great local forest. This is such a great river.
