Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. The Scatter Creek to Salmon La Sac Creek section of Cle Elum River is 8.5 miles long and it is classified as a class IV-V section by American Whitewater. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. There aren’t any hotels right     nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The river winds through the Northern Cascade Range and you get great scenery. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. On this section you do get some distance, it's good length for a morning trip. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. Briefly about the general area: All the water falling down from the sky makes Cle Elum River a wet place; of all the months in a year January is the one with the most snow, and the driest month is July. Man, is there lots of fun things to do in the Northern Cascade Range. Hiking along   the Jolly Mountain Lookout Trail is perfect fun. You need to pop by China Point while you're here at Cle Elum River, and do take a hike on the Davis Peak Lookout Trail. High temperatures at Cle Elum River during the summertime are in the 60's. Summer overnight lows drop down to the 40's. Through the winter the highs are frequently in the 20's while the cold winter nights at Cle Elum River are in the 10's.
