The Upper Clearwater Road access to Clearwater Campground section of Clearwater River in Washington is 9.5 miles long and is a class III-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The put-in is not too far from Port Angeles, as you can see on the road map further down. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Washington is often more difficult than elsewhere, so keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. The wild scenery of the Olympic Mountains is great. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Getting a good workout
and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're
all set. The natural beauty of Washington and the water flowing gracefully down Clearwater River are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's good length for a morning trip. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of places for that.
Briefly about the general area: The high level of precipitation makes Clearwater River a rather wet place; the month with most of the rain is December while August is ordinarily
the driest month. Summertime highs at Clearwater River generally tend to be in the 70's; the nighttime is somewhat colder of course, ordinarily in the 40's. For the duration of the winter highs are usually in the 40's; through the dark hours in the winter at Clearwater River temperatures sink to the 30's.
