Washington whitewater - Coal Creek, Olympic Mountains, Cowlitz County Cowlitz county, East Fork to Harmony Dr. section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS III+(IV)     4.5 miles   Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Longview-Kelso, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Since you're on this site you are probably     into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots for that around here. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. The East Fork to Harmony Dr. section of Coal Creek in Cowlitz County is 4.5 miles long and has been rated as a class III+(IV) section by American Whitewater. Whitewater paddling here in the Olympic Mountains is a great experience. The wonderful Washington scenery and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip. This is the only paddling stretch along Coal Creek. Briefly about the general area: Goose Hollow is a good place to pop by nearby; nothing beats kicking back at Dibblees Beach. Coal Creek gets much water; the month with most of   the rain is December, and the driest of the months is July. At Coal Creek through the summer highs are in the 70's while overnight lows are usually in the 50's. The winter comes with highs in the 40's while Coal Creek nighttime low temperatures all through the winter are in the 30's. So many fun things to do in the Olympic Mountains, not enough time.
