The scenic beauty of Cowlitz County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water will make you feel great. This stretch of Coal Creek is 4.5 miles long and has been rated as a class III+(IV) section by American Whitewater. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby.
This is the only paddling section along Coal Creek. This stretch is mid length, it's good length for a morning trip. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of spots for that. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in
Washington tend to be more challenging than the national average, so better not forget that many runs in this state are not easy. When you're paddling down a Olympic Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too.
