The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. The natural beauty of Cowlitz County and the cool fresh water have people coming here. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The East Fork to Harmony Dr. stretch of Coal Creek in Washington is 4.5 miles long and it is classified
as a class III+(IV) section by American Whitewater. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's perfect for a one day trip. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. And of course, there are
campgrounds nearby. The beauty of the Olympic Mountains is a great plus for this river. The East Fork to Harmony Dr. stretch is the only paddling stretch along Coal Creek. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. The starting point is not too far from Longview-Kelso, as you can see on the road map further down.
Briefly about the general area: Goose Hollow is a fine spot to check out in close proximity to Coal Creek, and if you're looking for a beach close by we recommend Dibblees Beach. Coal Creek
is a quite wet place generally with lots of rainfall; during the month of December you get the most rain around here; July is when it's the driest. Life's too short to enjoy all the enjoyable stuff in the Olympic Mountains. Throughout the summertime months here at Coal Creek,
high temperatures generally get into the 70's. Once the sun is down it drops down to the 50's. The winter comes with highs in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Coal Creek are in the 30's.
