The scenic beauty of Washington and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream beats anything. This section of Cowlitz River is 9 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III section. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river     for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. Cowlitz River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Cispus River to Riffe Lake stretch is the only one. On this section you do get some distance, good for a one day paddling trip. The Northern Cascade Range scenery is wonderful. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The campgrounds here at Cowlitz River are pretty good. Briefly about the general area: Summertime at Cowlitz River arrives with high temperatures in the 70's; the overnight is slightly colder of course, ordinarily in the 40's. High temperatures through the wintertime are normally in the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 30's to Cowlitz River. All the water falling down from the sky makes Cowlitz   River a wet location; the month with most of the rain is December while July is ordinarily the driest month.
