The average Washington whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so don't forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. The salmon hatchery to Blue Creek access stretch of Cowlitz River is 10 miles long and has been rated as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will have     you coming back for more. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The beautiful scenery of Lewis County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The Northern Cascade Range scenery is wonderful. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. Cowlitz River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the salmon hatchery to Blue Creek access section is the only one. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so why not pack your camp stove too. Briefly about the general area: Much precipitation falls at Cowlitz River; the month   of December is the wettest with most of the rain; July meanwhile is the driest month. Summertime brings highs in the 70's to Cowlitz River. When the night sets in temperatures drop down into the 50's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 40's, and after the sun is down through the wintertime temperatures at Cowlitz River descend into the 30's.
