The Vail Loop Road to Military Road stretch of Deschutes River in Thurston County is 9.3 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II section of whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so better not forget that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The campgrounds here at Deschutes River are pretty good. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend
some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. The beauty of the Northern Cascade Range is a great plus for this river. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. On this section you
do get some distance, you can easily run it on an afternoon. The starting location is a short drive from Centralia, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Deschutes River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Vail Loop Road to Military Road stretch is the only one. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots for that.
