This river is only very rough in the winter/spring time, so unless you're very good don't ride the rapids in the winter/spring. The rest of the year it's about like the flaming geyser river with rapids lots of shallow rocks. Says Chris Zio
Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Washington is often more difficult than elsewhere, so better not forget that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. The starting point is not too far from Shelton, as you can see on the road map further down. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp.
Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. The wild scenery of the Olympic Mountains
is great. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. This section of Dosewallips River in Washington is 3 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class V+ section of whitewater. The scenic beauty of Jefferson County and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. This is a pretty short section so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well.
