The starting point is not too far from Shelton, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. Whitewater paddling here in the Olympic Mountains is a great experience. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people.
The Dosewallips Falls to Elkhorn Campground stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good spots. The scenic beauty of Washington
and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This is a bit of a short stretch so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This stretch of Dosewallips River in Jefferson County is 3 miles long and is a class V+ section of whitewater according to American Whitewater.

most of the rain falls all through December, and July is when it's the driest. High temperatures at Dosewallips River through the summer are in the 60's. When the night sets in temperatures fall down into the 50's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 40's; overnight lows in the 30's for Dosewallips River. Nearby Bull Elk Canyon is a splendid location to go if you're at Dosewallips River.
