The rest of the year it's about like the flaming geyser river with rapids lots of shallow rocks. The starting point is not too far from Shelton, as you can see on the road map further down. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp.     Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. The wild scenery of the Olympic Mountains is great. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. This section of Dosewallips River in Washington is 3 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class V+ section of whitewater. The scenic beauty of Jefferson County and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. This is a pretty short section so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. Briefly about the general   area: Near Dosewallips River you come across Bull Elk Canyon which is a great location to have a look at. For the period of the long summer days at Dosewallips River highs are regularly in the 60's. When the night sets in temperatures drop down into the 50's. Highs during the wintertime are commonly in the 40's; after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at Dosewallips River plunge into the 30's. Dosewallips River is typically a quite waterless spot; December is the month that gets the most rain, and the driest month of the year is July.
