The nature scenery of Jefferson County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. This stretch of Dosewallips River in Washington is 5.2 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV+ section by American Whitewater. Whether you're whitewater rafting     or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Elkhorn Campground to Six Mile Bridge section is one of them. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This stretch is mid length, you can easily run it on an afternoon. The beauty of the Olympic Mountains is a great plus for this river. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Washington are often more challenging than in other states, so keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Briefly about the general area: Summertime highs at Dosewallips River ordinarily tend to be in the 60's. Once the sun is down it dips   down to the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's; overnight lows at Dosewallips River all through the winter frequently plunge into the 30's. There's great hiking along the Mount Jupiter Trail. Dosewallips River is commonly a rather dry place; December is when you get the most rain here; the driest of the months is July.
