If you're coming from Shelton it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. This stretch of Dosewallips River is 5.2 miles long and it is classified as a class III-IV+ section by American Whitewater. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. When you're paddling down a Olympic     Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots for that around here. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. The nature scenery of Washington and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Briefly about the general area: Going for a hike along the Mount Jupiter Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this area. At Dosewallips River during   the warm months highs are in the 60's. Through the dark hours of summer temperatures dip down into the 50's. All through the wintertime the highs are regularly in the 40's, and night lows at Dosewallips River through the winter typically dip into the 30's.
